We are saddened to inform you that our beloved and former Deacon Sylvester D'Souza passed away on 14 November 2022 in Mangalore. May God welcome him into His eternal kingdom and grant consolation and strength to his bereaved family members, relatives and friends.
THE MASS AND FUNERAL took place on Wednesday, 16 November 2022 at Our Lady of Miracles Church, Milagres, Mangalore City, India.
On Thursday, 17 November 2022 a Requiem Mass was offered for his soul at the Holy Family Co-Cathedral, Kuwait City by our Apostolic Administrator, H.E. Bishop Paul Hinder, OFM Cap., together with Rev. Fr. Peter PM, Capuchin Custos of Arabia and the Priests of Kuwait. THE MASS WAS TELECAST LIVE ON YOUTUBE.
Deacon Sylvester D'Souza was born on 27th December 1940 in Mangalore. At the age of 22, he arrived in Kuwait on 2nd March 1962 and worked in a Restaurant for some years. Later, Fr. Stella Maris, who later became Bishop, met Sylvester after celebrating a Mass in a private home in Salmiya. Seeing his devotion and faithfulness, Fr. Stella Maris brought him to the Holy Family Cathedral to serve and he resided therein. Later, Bishop Francis Micallef, knowing Sylvester's trustworthiness, love and dedication for the Church, sent him for Theological Studies at OCD Carmelaram Theology College, Bangalore, India. After completing his studies in Theology, Bishop Francis ordained Sylvester as Deacon on 31st May 1992 at the Holy Family Cathedral, Kuwait.
Deacon Sylvester D'Souza dedicated his life wholeheartedly to the Church in Kuwait and served under four Bishops. He was untiring and totally selfless. He will be remebered for his charity and kindness to all. In May 2017, he celebrated the Silver Jubilee of his diaconate ordination. After rendering a dedicated service in all the four parishes in Kuwait for more than 50 years, he retired and went back to Mangalore on 4th June 2019. May God grant him eternal rest, peace and bliss.
