Fr. Joseph Valiaveettil Paul was born on 30th January 1982 in Cheriakadavu, Kerala, and was baptized at St. Michael’s church Manassery on 14th of March 1982. He is the eldest son of a family of 2 children.

He did his studies in 3 different schools. He completed high school in 1997 at St. Mary’s School, Kannamaly.

In 1997, he joined the Capuchin Seminary of St. Francis Assisi Province, Kerala and received his religious habit on 1st May 2001. He made his temporary vows on 25th April 2002 and perpetual vows on 14th May 2009. He was ordained on 4th January 2010.

He studied philosophy at Marygiri philosophical college and obtained his B.A. in philosophy from Kerala University, Trivandrum. He studied theology at Bodhi Institute of Theology, Kollam. He also procured MA in Philosophy and Sociology from the Indira Gandhi National University of India.

Priestly Ministry / Professional Activities

• 10th March 2010 : Mission in Arunachal Pradesh, appointed as Asst. Parish Priest and youth in charge of St Joseph’s Church, Seppa, East Kameng District, and hostel in charge of St. Joseph’s school.


• 10th January 2012 : Transferred to Veo, a substation of Seppa (First Capuchin mission in Itanagar Diocese) and was appointed as a member of St. Antony’s friary Veo, Pakke Kessang District.


• 7th July 2014 : Transferred to Miao diocese (First Capuchin mission in Miao and Arunachal Pradesh) and appointed as parish priest of St. Francis Assisi church Dadam, Tirap District.


• 25th May 2017 : Appointed as Vice Novice Master and financial administrator at Sion Ashram, Manalikkad, Kerala.


• 30th July 2020 : Appointed as Financial Administrator of St. Bonaventure friary and the pilgrim centre of Fr Theophane, in charge of Franciscan Third Order (OFS) and catechism director of the friary at Ponnurunni, Kerala.



Fr. Joseph VP joined the Apostolic Vicariate of Northern Arabia on the 29th of March 2023 and has been assigned to the Holy Family Co-Cathedral, Kuwait.
